TEHRAN (Mehr News Agency) – Iran demolished Uzbekistan in the quarterfinal of the 5th Asian Futsal Championships here Sunday.

Playing in front of over 8,000 passionate fans, Iran handed the Uzbeks a 7-2 defeat to set up the semifinal against Kuwait Monday.

Siamak Dadashi opened the scoring for Iran and the Asian top goalscorer Vahid Shamsaei added two more to make it 3-0. Mohsen Zarei slotted home the fourth but Iran’s skipper Mohammadreza Heidarian made it 4-1 as he tackled the ball past Reza Nasseri. Saeid Abdollh-Nejadian scored the fifth for Iran in the first half.

Kazem Mohammadi netted seven minutes after the break and Shamsaei fired home the seventh.

Uzbekistan pulled one back and Iran won the game 7-2 in the 12,000-seater hall of Azadi Sports Complex, 10km west of Tehran.

Earlier, Japan overcame Taiwan 7-5, Thailand beat the Kyrgyz side 2-1, and Kuwait defeated South Korea 6-5.

In the first semifinal match Monday, Japan fights against Thailand and Kuwait meets Iran.
